Ghanaian Pastor, Sylvester Ofori, Shoots Wife Dead In U.S

A Ghanaian pastor, Sylvester Ofori, has been charged with shooting his wife, Barbara Tommey, dead in Orlando, United States.

The pastor allegedly shot 27-year-old Tommey dead outside her workplace at about 9am on Tuesday, September 8 2020.

Tommey was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center shortly after she was taken there for medical attention.

Ofori has been arrested and taken into custody. The 35-year-old is now being held at the Orange County Jail without bond on a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm.

During a press conference on Tuesday morning, Police Chief Orlando Rolón confirmed the shooting which was captured on CCTV.

“You can tell that she’s trying to get inside (the credit union). Unfortunately, he shoots her,” he said. “You can tell she was surprised by what was happening.”

The Navy Federal Credit Union has released a statement on the shooting.

“Our thoughts are with our team member’s family. Our number one priority is keeping both our members and team members safe. We will ensure all team members at the branch are provided with the support they need during this time. Any further information can be provided by the Orlando Police Department.”

Reports say Tommy suffered abuse in the hands of her Pastor husband for a long time and had been persuaded by her family to leave.
