Protesters in Ghana gathered at the Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange for Yentua street demonstrations against the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).

Named Yentua, the protests over the controversial E-levy started at 7:00 am in the morning at Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle passing through Farisco, Striking Force, the Kinbu Road, the Octagon, the National Theatre through the AU Roundabout. It is expected to round up at the Parliament House.

The rationale behind the Yentua demonstration is to pressure the government to rescind its ‘desperate’ efforts on the electronic transaction levy alias E-levy.

Men of the State police were sighted in strategic locations. The Accra Regional Police Command in a statement yesterday said it has made arrangements to provide adequate security for the demonstration.

The Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) deployed personnel to assist with traffic management.

“The general public is hereby encouraged to cooperate with the Police to ensure an incident-free demonstration,” the Police said in their statement.

However, organisers and demonstrators taking part in the demonstration have been advised to observe the necessary Covid-19 protocols.
