Following comments by the British High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson, about the arrest and detention of the lead convener of the FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the Ghana Police Service has called on the High Commission to desist from meddling in the affairs of Ghana.

Madam Harriet Thompson, in a tweet on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, said “Oliver Barker Vormawor, the convener of #FixTheCountry Movement, arrested again, I understand, for a motoring offense on his way to court. I’ll be interested to see where this goes….”

But a letter dated May 20, 2022, and signed by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to the High Commissioner, said that tweet was from either a biased or uninformed position.

He stated that “Ordinarily, the Ghana Police Service would not have responded to comments such as yours, obviously made from either a biased or uninformed position. However, we have learned from a previous painful experience that it has not been helpful to ignore such misguided, unwarranted, and biased comments intended to tarnish the reputation of the Ghana Police Service and that of our country.”

The letter also accused the British High Commissioner of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations by seeking to meddle in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation.
