Giuliano Simeone Scores First Goal as Atletico Madrid Defeats Las Palmas

Atletico Madrid recorded a convincing 2-0 victory over Las Palmas on Sunday, moving up to third place in La Liga and marking a much-needed return to form. Notably, coach Diego Simeone’s son, Giuliano, scored his first goal for the club during the match.

Despite expressing concerns about the impact of devastating floods in the Valencia region, which have claimed over 200 lives, Simeone’s side showed resilience. Outside the Metropolitano stadium, donations of food and supplies were collected for those affected by the disaster.

After a disappointing run that included just one win in their last four league matches, Atletico took the lead in the 37th minute when Nahuel Molina’s long pass found Giuliano, who skillfully rounded the goalkeeper, Jasper Cillessen, to slot the ball into the net. Giuliano celebrated by holding up a shirt supporting flood victims, reflecting the team’s solidarity amid the tragedy.

Atletico continued to press, with Antoine Griezmann hitting the crossbar just before half-time. Cillessen was later stretchered off after a collision with Molina and was replaced by Dinko Horkas.

Alexander Sorloth sealed the victory in the 84th minute with a precise finish following a clever assist from Rodrigo De Paul. The win sets the stage for Atletico as they prepare for their upcoming Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
