In a groundbreaking initiative, Google has pledged 25 million euros ($26.98 million) towards enhancing AI literacy across Europe. This investment aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to navigate the increasingly AI-driven world.

Announced on Monday, Google’s funding initiative targets social enterprises and nonprofits dedicated to reaching those who stand to benefit most from AI training. Through this endeavour, the tech giant seeks to bridge the gap in AI adoption and ensure inclusivity in its benefits.

The programme will feature “growth academies” designed to assist companies in leveraging AI to scale their operations. Furthermore, Google has expanded its repertoire of free online AI training courses, now available in 18 languages, to facilitate widespread accessibility.

Adrian Brown, Executive Director of the Centre for Public Impact, a partner in Google’s nonprofit scheme, highlighted the importance of addressing existing inequalities exacerbated by AI advancements. He emphasised, “This new programme will help people across Europe develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence around AI, ensuring that no one is left behind.”

This commitment to AI education comes on the heels of Google’s recent announcement to invest $1 billion in constructing a data centre near London. Situated in Waltham Cross, the facility underscores Google’s dedication to meeting the escalating demand for internet services in the region.

As Europe steers towards an AI-driven future, Google’s investments in education and infrastructure shows its commitment to fostering innovation and inclusivity across the continent.
