Google dismissed twenty-eight employees on Wednesday night following their participation in a 10-hour sit-in protest at offices in New York and Sunnyvale, California.

The workers embarked on the protest to oppose the company’s $1.2 billion cloud contract with Israel, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Following some internal investigations, the staff involved were relieved of their appointments, according to a company-wide memo from Google’s vice president of global security, Chris Rackow.

Rackow described the employees’ actions as unacceptable, highly disruptive, and causing discomfort to fellow colleagues.

The memo partly reads:

“Following investigation, today we terminated the employment of twenty-eight employees found to be involved. We will continue to investigate and take action as needed.”
