Google to Empower African SMEs with AI Skills

Google, the American multinational corporation, has announced its plans to enhance its Hustle Academy curriculum, aimed at accelerating the growth and development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In a statement released by the company during the relaunch of the Hustle Academy, it was revealed that the curriculum would now include business-focused Artificial Intelligence (AI) training to empower African Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs).

According to Google, SMBs play a crucial role in Africa’s economy, yet many require assistance in accessing funding and developing essential skills to foster their growth.

The announcement of the launch of the 2024 cohort of its Hustle Academy highlighted that over 10,000 businesses have benefited since its inception in 2022.

Kristy Grant, head of B2B marketing at SSA, stated, “AI holds immense potential for African SMBs, enabling them to drive innovation, increase efficiency, and unlock new levels of economic growth. The Hustle Academy has supported over 10,000 businesses that have gone ahead to raise funding and create jobs since inception.

“By incorporating AI into our curriculum, we aim to amplify this impact further, equipping SMBs to harness AI technologies for improved business performance and economic progress.”

Participants will delve into practical applications through modules such as ‘Boost Your Productivity with AI’ and ‘Marketing Strategy and AI,’ learning how to save time and enhance digital outreach. The new AI modules will focus on data-driven decision-making, optimising operations, and developing AI-powered marketing strategies.
