Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has commenced the rehabilitation of 17 dilapidated roads in Kano’s metropolitan area, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to urban renewal and infrastructural development.
The road reconstruction initiative was flagged off at Club Road in Nassarawa Local Government, marking the beginning of a broader urban renewal project aimed at transforming Kano into a modern mega city.
In a statement released on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his dedication to fulfilling campaign promises, particularly in the metropolitan areas.
“I feel highly delighted, I feel happy and I feel fulfilled, as your governor who made promise during our NNPP electioneering Campaign, especially in the metropolis, we made a promise when elected, by the Grace of Almighty Allah we are going to make Kano in terms of infrastructural development as one of the best cities in Nigeria,” the governor stated.

He further assured that funds for the 17 road projects have been set aside to ensure timely payment and quality execution. Contractors were urged to maintain global construction standards, as Governor Yusuf warned that he would conduct unscheduled visits to project sites to monitor progress.
The Managing Director of Metropolitan Construction Company, the firm handling the project, pledged to deliver excellent work within the agreed timeframe.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Engr. Marwan Ahmad, confirmed that the Urban Renewal Programme was initiated by Governor Yusuf and approved by the State Executive Council.
The project will cover key roads, including Club Road, Ashton Road, Airport Road, and Murtala Muhammad Road.
Governor Yusuf’s administration has prioritised urban renewal as part of efforts to boost Kano’s infrastructure and economic growth.
