Governor Umo Eno has designated his daughter, Mrs Helen Eno Obareki, to temporarily fulfil the role of First Lady of Akwa Ibom State following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.
The decision aims to carry on her legacy, particularly her flagship project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).
The announcement was made during Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit to the Eno family in Uyo on Friday. Senator Tinubu commended the governor’s decision saying it is a way to sustain the ex-first lady’s legacy.
Regarding the transition of the First Lady’s responsibilities, Governor Eno introduced Helen, stating, “It is not an easy task ahead, but I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.”
Senator Tinubu also provided words of support to Helen, expressing, “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. I believe God will guide you.”
Governor Eno dismissed speculations about remarrying stressing that his goal is that his late wife’s legacy would persist through Helen, who will oversee the First Lady’s office and its programs.
