Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria, has officially signed the Oyo State Project Monitoring Agency Bill (2024) into law, emphasising his commitment to establishing enduring institutions that will steer the state towards sustained progress.
The governor highlighted his administration’s success in establishing robust institutions set to withstand the test of time and propel the state’s growth across various sectors.
Asserting the paramount importance of strong institutions over strong individuals, Governor Makinde stressed the significance of entities capable of fostering development and adding value comprehensively.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser (Media), Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor announced the enactment of the Oyo State Project Monitoring Agency Bill (2024) at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde acknowledged the existing Bureau of Public Procurement and Governor’s Monitoring Team upon assuming office in 2019, lamenting the lack of optimal value for money expended on projects at the time.
Governor Makinde commended the State House of Assembly for their collaborative efforts with the executive arm in fostering accountability and delivering value to the citizens.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, expressed the House’s enthusiasm towards the bill, affirming the agency’s alignment with the Assembly’s oversight responsibilities.
Acknowledging concerns about potential overlap between the agency’s functions and those of the House, Speaker Ogundoyin assured that collaboration and clarity in directives would prevent any encroachment on each other’s duties.
Present at the signing ceremony were Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Secretary to the State Governor Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, Head of Service Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, Deputy Speaker Abiodun Fadeyi, Commissioner for Justice Biodun Aikomo, Commissioner for Works Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin, and Commissioner for Special Duties Alhaja Faosat Ajoke Sanni.
