Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has delivered on his promise to the people of Udomi in Esan Central, commissioning a 2.5MVA injection sub-station to boost electricity supply in the area.
The governor, accompanied by top government officials, inspected the completed facility on Monday, expressing satisfaction with the progress and readiness of the station to supply power to the community and its environs.
“This is the first time the people are witnessing infrastructure of this magnitude,” Okpebholo said, noting that the project marks a significant step toward enhancing development and extending steady power to neighbouring communities.
He reaffirmed his commitment to bringing tangible development closer to the people, stating that residents were “finally feeling the impact of governance close to their homes.”
Promising more projects across the state, the governor pledged that his administration would continue to prioritise people-oriented initiatives.

Okpebholo further aligned the project with the federal government’s vision, stating, “We remain committed to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” and assured citizens of continued infrastructural developments that would improve lives and foster inclusive growth.
He also emphasised the economic potential of the new sub-station, saying it would energise small and medium businesses through consistent power supply.
In addition to the power project, the governor inspected ongoing construction work at the new Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences, and Technology, located in Udomi. He acknowledged the support of the State House of Assembly, which passed the bill enabling the institution’s establishment.
“Work is progressing steadily; I assure residents of more impactful projects in education, health, and infrastructure,” Okpebholo stated.
Speaking during the inspection, Mokwenye Jidenmah, Business Head of the Benin City Distribution Company, lauded the governor’s intervention and confirmed that several communities would benefit from the upgraded power network.
He explained the technical details of the project, saying, “The station would step down a 33KVA line to 11KVA, energising over nine transformers to supply power across Udomi and neighbouring areas.”
Jidenmah also revealed plans for the next phase of the electricity project: “The second phase of the electricity project will link six communities, including Udomi 1, Ujabhole 1, Unogbo, Idimoghodor, Ibhioloulu, and Afuda.”
