Four discordant Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his allies – Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) arrived Madrid, Spain, on Friday night.
This came shortly after Wike held a media chat where he fired more salvos at the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, insisting on his resignation before further peace talks could resume.
He also bragged that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would not win the election if he and his allies leave the party.
“The concession we have made is that we won’t leave the party. Assuming we say we will leave the party, do you know the effect of that? Whether you like it or not, if I leave the party today, PDP cannot win. If we are leaving, we are leaving with all our people, and that is the truth of the matter.
“However, let this man go, the zone that is supposed to produce the chairman, produce the chairman and you don’t want to make the concession. What concession have they made? Do you think that today, we the five governors say we going to a party and there will still be PDP?”
A reliable source from Government House, Port Harcourt confided in News Central Reporter, Igbalaniyi Omoniyi that the governor and his team left Port Harcourt International Airport late Friday night.
He added that the governor of Enugu State is likely to join the team in Madrid.
Atiku and his team have put campaigns on hold and sent fresh emissaries to Wike in order to resolve the pending areas of differences, ahead of the 2023 Presidential polls which is 17 weeks away.
