Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has initiated the distribution of resettlement allocation letters to farmers whose lands were acquired for the development of two new cities in the state. This move is a key part of the government’s strategy to alleviate congestion in Kano metropolis and encourage urban expansion.
According to a statement signed by the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the allocations cover “2,483 plots from Yargaya and Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin-Kudu, and 1,671 plots for Unguwar Rimi and Lambu in Tofa local government areas.” These plots are provided as compensation for the farmers impacted by the land acquisition.
“This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to decongest Kano metropolis and promote urban expansion,” the statement read. The governor’s office emphasised that the new city projects are designed to create environmentally-friendly urban centers equipped with essential amenities, which are expected to stimulate socio-economic growth and improve the quality of life in the affected areas.
Governor Yusuf also acknowledged the critical role played by community and traditional leaders in ensuring a transparent and smooth resettlement process. “Governor Yusuf commended the efforts of community and traditional leaders in facilitating the compensation process, assuring the public of a transparent and smooth resettlement exercise,” the statement continued.
In addition, the governor revealed that the Federal Government has plans to construct an international-standard conference center in the area, alongside a federal housing scheme that will start with 500 houses and eventually expand to 1,500 houses.
The Kano State Government is also focused on enhancing security in the region. Plans are underway to remodel, rebuild, and equip security towers at the entrances of Kano metropolis to safeguard the lives and property of residents.
This comprehensive approach to urban development underscores the administration’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth while ensuring that affected communities are adequately compensated and supported.
