Pep Guardiola has announced that his role at Manchester City will be the last club managerial position of his coaching career.
In an exclusive interview with Spanish chef Dani Garcia, Guardiola provided a major update regarding his future, saying he will not take on any other teams once he departs from City.
Guardiola has had an impressive eight-and-a-half years at the Etihad, securing six Premier League titles and a variety of other honours.
The Spaniard is currently experiencing the most challenging phase of his tenure, with City winning only one of their last eight matches across all competitions. Nevertheless, Guardiola extended his contract until 2027 last month, ensuring that his time with the reigning Premier League champions will extend beyond ten years.
“I’m not going to manage another team,” he remarked. “I’m not referring to the long-term future, but I will not leave Man City, go to a different country, and replicate what I’m doing now.
“I wouldn’t have the motivation to start fresh elsewhere and go through all the training processes. Perhaps managing a national team, but that’s an entirely different situation.
“I want to step back and enjoy playing golf, but I can’t. I believe taking a break would benefit me.”
Guardiola also shared with Garcia his aspirations for life after he eventually retires from coaching.
“One of them is to learn French, use my free time for myself to play golf, and start mastering simple cooking techniques.”
Meanwhile, City dropped more points in the title race on Saturday after being held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace, resulting in their grip on the Premier League weakening weekly.
The 53-year-old noted that it’s challenging for him to cope when his team is not achieving positive results.
Guardiola, recognised for revolutionising English football, is the first manager in England to secure four successive top-flight titles. Overall, he has won 354 out of his 495 matches in charge of City, achieving an impressive win rate of 71.52 per cent and claiming 18 trophies in total.
City is currently fourth in the Premier League after 15 matches, trailing Liverpool by eight points and they find themselves in 17th place in the Champions League Group Stage and will return to playing on Wednesday against Juventus.
