Pep Guardiola has pledged his commitment to Manchester City, vowing not to abandon the club despite their current struggles. The City boss, who recently extended his contract for two more years, is determined to reverse the reigning champions’ alarming slump.
City have endured a torrid spell, losing nine of their last 13 matches and securing just one win in that stretch. The uncharacteristic run of form has left the club in seventh place in the Premier League and sparked speculation over Guardiola’s future.
However, the Spaniard remains steadfast, saying he still has the drive to rebuild.
“I will try, I will keep going,” Guardiola said. “Sometimes you think the bad run will end sooner or be easier to fix, but it takes more time. I will not give up. I want to be here. I want to do it, and with the situation we have, we have to do it.”
Guardiola, who has guided City to six Premier League titles in the past seven seasons, emphasized his dedication to the fans and the club.
“I don’t want to disappoint the people who love this club,” he added. “The biggest test is to come back again, but we’ve done it before.”
City’s woes have been compounded by injuries to key players. Ballon d’Or winner Rodri remains sidelined with a knee injury, while Ruben Dias, John Stones, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, and Matheus Nunes were all absent in the 1-1 draw against Everton on Boxing Day.
Erling Haaland, typically a goal machine, has struggled with form, scoring just once in his last seven outings. The Norwegian missed a penalty that could have sealed victory against Everton, adding to City’s frustrations.
Despite the setbacks, Guardiola defended his players. “I don’t have it in my education to start complaining or pointing fingers. It’s football, so let’s try again,” he said.
The manager also highlighted the team’s resilience, saying, “For years, we were incredibly consistent. Now we’re a little down because of injuries, but I see the team spirit. They’re focused and trying their best in training.”
As City prepare for a crucial match against Leicester City on Sunday, Guardiola admitted the road ahead would not be easy.
“Sometimes you have injuries, and sometimes results don’t go your way. But we’ve had success because we never stop trying, and we’ll do the same again.”
City will aim to return to winning ways and rekindle the form that has made them one of the most dominant teams in modern football.
