Speaking today at a meeting at State House, Mombasa, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Guinea Bissau President-Elect Umaro Cissoko Embalo said the two countries will enhance their cooperation and deepen bilateral ties for the benefit of their respective citizens.
Former opposition leader and now President-elect Umaro Cissoko Embalo, emerged victorious from a run-off election held on 29th November 2019 with 53.55 per ent of the votes. He is in Kenya for a brief visit following his stopover in Nigeria where he met President Buhari at Aso Rock. He has also called on the heads of state of Senegal and Congo-Brazzaville. His inauguration is slated for February 15th.
During their meeting, Kenyatta and Embalo singled out the exchange of students and teachers, collaboration in technical training, trade and security as some of the key areas of focus in bolstering cooperation between Kenya and Guinea Bissau. Embalo also invited President Kenyatta to attend his inauguration as the Chief Guest, an invitation that the host head of state accepted.
The two African heads of states also resolved to work together and play an active role in bridging the gap between East and West Africa through enhanced people-to-people interactions to boost continental integration efforts.
