The Guinness World Records has rejected the endeavor of Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak to set a new record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Failatu endeavored to cook continuously for more than 227 hours in January but fell short due to non-compliance with the prescribed regulations for rest intervals.
Kafui Dey, the coordinator, disclosed the unsuccessful attempt, which had garnered extensive support from Ghana’s military, politicians, and celebrities.
“A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt.”
Chef Abdul-Razak thanked her fans in spite of the setback, stating that she doesn’t take their important role in her path for granted.

0In January 2024, Failatu Abdul-Rasak, a Ghanaian chef affectionately known as Faila, embarked on a cooking marathon lasting 227 hours, aiming to establish a new Guinness World Record (GWR).
Chef Faila initiated her extraordinary endeavor on New Year’s Day at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale. On Wednesday, she concluded her attempt after the 227th hour, cheered on by a gathering of supporters and fellow Ghanaians.
In a social media post, Chef Faila appreciated everyone “who has been by my side on this journey”.
She also said her victory is “dedicated to God and Ghana”.
“Now, it’s time for us to rejoice and jubilate. This victory is dedicated to God and Ghana!🇬🇭 Thank you all, m’pagya!” she wrote on X.
“Allow me to borrow a part of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s words: “At long last, the battle has ended.” I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with excitement and joy. You’ve been by my side on this journey from the very first minute to 227 hours.”
The Guinness World Records organizers have not yet issued an official statement regarding Faila’s attempt.
Throughout her endeavor, Faila received backing from numerous Ghanaian celebrities, including former Black Stars footballers Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah. Ghana’s Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, announced the attempt on Facebook and contributed 30,000 Ghanaian cedis (£1,981) to support the chef. Faila aims to surpass the current world record held by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes.
