Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped Dr Collinus Onuigbo, a neurosurgeon at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The abduction occurred late Tuesday near his residence, just metres from the hospital. The incident has left the victim’s family distressed as they strive for his safe release.
This comes three days after Governor Chukwuma Soludo launched Operation Udo ga-achị (Peace Must Reign), aimed at combating crime and ensuring security in the state.
The Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.
He stated that the State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono-Itam, has mobilised a rescue operation.
“Officers are actively pursuing leads to locate and rescue the doctor.”
Efforts to restore security in the state continue as police intensify their search for the abductors.
