Gunmen Abduct Rivers United Coach Stanley Eguma

Rivers United manager, Stanley Eguma, was kidnapped on Tuesday by gunmen along Enugu road with two of his personal assistants on their way back from a Nigerian Professional Football League game against Adamawa United, at the Ribadu Square Stadium, Yola, which the Port Harcourt-based side lost 2-0.

Local reports confirmed that the coach did not ride with the team’s bus when the incident happened, Eguma drove his personal car in company of his personal assistants.

Although the Rivers State owned Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) club side is yet to make an official statement on the whereabouts of Eguma, the State Police Command has confirmed the abduction.

According to CP Mohammed Aliyu, the veteran manager was kidnapped along Enugu-Port Harcourt road on Tuesday.

In a statement yesterday by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Daniel Ndukwe, Aliyu said rescue mission is already underway.

The statement said that Eguma was abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on June 15, at about 4 p.m on the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

“The order is sequel to a complaint made to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command, the same date as the incident at about 5:05 p.m, by two other persons traveling with the victim.

“His co-travelers say the gunmen, operating in a white-colored Hilux van, trailed and forced the black-colored Hilux van conveying them from Gombe to Port-Harcourt, to stop.

“They added that the assailants pushed the two of them out and made away with the vehicle, abducting the victim in the process.”

The commissioner, has urged members of the public with useful information that would assist the command in its ongoing investigation, not to hold back.
