Gunmen Kill 10 Civilians in Burkina Faso

No fewer than 10 civilians were left dead and four others missing after some gunmen raided a market on Monday.

The attack took place in the Markoye area of the Sahel reserve, Northern Burkina Faso, reports said.

There was no immediate official communication, but terrorists linked to ISIL frequently attack the area bordering Niger and Mali.

At least five police officers were killed Sunday in a similar attack in the north of the country and around 15 “terrorists” were killed in the ensuing clash, the Security Ministry said.

At the time of the latest attack, Burkina Faso was celebrating its 61st anniversary of its army and fighting terrorism.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) estimates that between May and August, 480 civilians were killed in insurgent attacks in Burkina Faso.

A total of 1.4 million people in the country have fled their homes as a result of the attacks, according to the report.
