Gunmen have killed at least 11 civilians in the Maikatako community, Butura District in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Northcentral Nigeria.
According to reports, the attackers arrived on Wednesday at 1am and immediately started shooting sporadically, razing several houses.
In addition to the victims killed and the houses destroyed, many other people were also injured during the attack.
Daniel Isah, a native of the area, claimed that neighbors were still attempting to determine the numbers and identities of those who died, adding that the dead were razed beyond recognition.
“So far, about 11 persons are dead,” he said. He claimed that the gunmen returned to the neighborhood about 8am and started firing. He claimed that security personnel had not yet launched a counterattack.
This attack comes as security in Jos, Plateau State, was heightened following the official commencement of the APC Presidential campaign on Tuesday, November 15.
