Barely 24 hours after Plateau state Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced a 24-hour curfew in Mangu local government area over security concerns, gunmen launched fresh attacks in Kwahaslalek village, killing at least 30 people.
Residents reported that armed men stormed the village early hours of Wednesday morning and began shooting at random, while also razing houses.
One of the buildings burnt down during the attack was the Sunnah Islamiya school.
Sources gathered that victims of the attacks were mostly women and children taking shelter at a community leader’s home after the last attack that happened a few days ago. The armed men killed them right there at the leader’s house.
Communities in Mangu LGA have suffered a series of attacks in recent years, with renewed violence in the past weeks.
Locals have deserted their homes in search of safe spaces, as security agencies struggle to maintain law and order in the locality.
