Gunmen Kill Eight Persons in Raid on Ghanaian Villages

Gunmen Kill Eight Persons in Raid on Ghana Villages (News Central TV)

At least eight persons have been killed and a number of others injured after gunmen attacked Zacholi village in north-eastern Ghana.

Sources say the assailants stormed the villages, set houses ablaze, destroyed several property, and inflicted severe injuries on innocent locals, leaving eight persons dead.

The police say they are investigating the incident and that a manhunt has begun to arrest and prosecute the assailants.

The reason behind the attack is unknown, however the region is plagued by security issues such as armed robbery and communal clashes.

Recall that News Central reported during the week that Ghanaian Authorities were planning to improve the security apparatus in its villages following security threats from unknown assailants.

According to  the National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah, Separatists in south-eastern Ghana may be plotting a fresh wave of attacks in the region, as part of their push for a breakaway state of Western Togoland.

Authorities are also concerned that ethnic tensions in northern Ghana could be used by armed groups to commit bloodshed.

It is also believed that militants could cross over from neighbouring Burkina Faso, where armed groups linked to the so-called Islamic State and al-Qaeda have recently stepped up attacks.
