Unknown gunmen attacked a school in Niger State, North Central Nigeria, killing one while they kidnapped students and teachers on Wednesday.
Government Science College, Kagara, Rafi Local Governement area of the state was attacked by the gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving many injured in the shootings.
The gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniforms making their identification difficult before they reigned terror on the school.
The exact number of kidnapped students is yet to be ascertained but some of them are reported to have escaped the attack. A headcount of the students is currently ongoing to determine the actual number of students that were abducted.
Niger State government has announced the immediate closure of boarding schools in the state while the Nigerian Presidency has ordered the security agencies to rescue the abducted students immediately.
The Nigerian Air Force airplanes are said to have begun an air patrol to know the destination of the students and their kidnappers.
A criminal group had kidnapped ten travellers in Niger State some days ago and released a video of the travellers on Wednesday as they pleaded with the state government to pay the demanded ransom.
The kidnappers also displayed their arsenal in the video in attempts to show their strength. They threatened to kill the travellers if N500m ransom is not paid.
