Armed men suspected of kidnapping have killed two commuters and kidnapped five more on the Ifon-Owo Highway in Ondo State.
According to sources, the commercial vehicle’s driver and a female passenger were shot and killed at the scene on Friday evening.
The terrorists also kidnapped five additional passengers, one of whom was a Corps member. However, two of the victims managed to escape with varying degrees of injuries.
According to one local, the attackers started fire on the fully laden commercial van as it travelled from Anambra State to Owo and Akure in Ondo State.
SP Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanyan, Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident.
She further stated that a team of police officers had been rushed to the area and were combing the surrounding woodland to catch the kidnappers and rescue the victims.
