Gunmen on Sunday stormed some homes in Anguwar Maji, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, Northern Nigeria, abducting 22 locals, less than 24 hours after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, paid a visit to the highway.

The incident occurred at 11pm on Sunday. Jere shares a border with Tafa-Sabon-Wuse in Niger State.

It was gathered that the heavily armed assailants, in their large numbers, infiltrated some of the homes, and abducted 22 people, including five women.

Sources say the bandit operated for more than an hour without the intervention of security forces.

This is coming at a time when unknown assailants launched an attack on Tsafe town, Tsafe LGA of Zamfara in Nigeria’s Northern region, killing the State’s Commissioner of Security Affairs’ son and an undisclosed number.

This incident has triggered the mass migration of residents from Tsafe LGA to other neighbouring communities.

The attack on Zamfara on Sunday night is the latest in a series of attacks by assailants who have terrorised the state since 2018.

Thousands of people have been killed and hundreds more have been kidnapped by gunmen in Zamfara and other North-western states.

Meanwhile, News Central learnt that bandits on Sunday launched an attack on the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Zaria, Kaduna State, North-West, Nigeria. As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties recorded from the incident cannot be ascertained.

This is coming nearly one week after terrorists attacked the Kaduna-Abuja train in Kaduna State, killing many, and abducting several.

The 6pm train that took off on Monday night from Idu Train Station at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) hit an explosive device about 30 minutes to Rigasa train station in Kaduna.

This prompted the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, to suspend all operations along the Kaduna-Abuja rail track until investigations into the incident are done.

As of the time of filing this report, the number of missing victims from the attack is about 168, according to the NRC.

It said efforts were still underway to rescue the missing passengers.
