Son of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Hannibal Gaddafi, has reportedly been transported in “critical condition” from a Lebanese prison to a hospital.
He began a hunger strike this month to denounce his 2015 incarceration without trial. Al-Hadath reported, citing unknown sources, to have noticed a sharp drop in blood sugar.
It has been claimed that Gaddafi withheld information about the location of Imam Musa al-Sadr, a Lebanese Shia Muslim imam who disappeared in 1978 while traveling to Libya.
He fled Libya in 2011 after a rebellion against his father’s rule erupted there. He eventually arrived in Syria, where Dabri claimed he was abducted in 2015 and taken to Lebanon.
In 2011, rebels kidnapped and assassinated Muammar Gaddafi. Sadr, who Libya claimed departed the country safely, is widely thought to have died soon after being taken into custody.
The Shi’ite Amal Movement was created by Sadr and, along with Hezbollah, dominates Lebanese Shi’ite politics. It has been led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri since 1980.
