First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said that her husband, President Bola Tinubu, is not responsible for the current hardship in the country.

She made the remark on Thursday during a visit to the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Osun State. She explained that the administration is working hard to address the nation’s difficulties.

“We are just 18 months into our administration, and we are not the cause of the present situation. We are making efforts to fix it and secure the future,” she said.

Acknowledging the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, she expressed optimism about the future.

“We know the subsidy has been removed, but with God’s help, in the next two years, Nigeria will be in a better place. Others who tried to remove the subsidy couldn’t follow through, but with your prayers, we will build a brighter future.”

She also expressed gratitude for the position she and her husband hold, emphasising their commitment to the country.

“We give glory to God for our status. My husband and I are not driven by greed, and we are thankful for what God has done for us. It is rare for people from wealthy backgrounds to reach this level, but we will not let Nigeria down, with God’s help.”

In response, the Ooni of Ife expressed his admiration for the first lady, particularly praising her New Era Initiative and its “One Day Governor” program in Lagos State, which he described as a “milestone” that inspires young students to aspire for leadership roles.
