Arsenal forward Kai Havertz’s wife, Sophia, has condemned vile abuse on social media, including threats directed at their unborn child, following Arsenal’s FA Cup loss to Manchester United. Havertz missed a crucial penalty during the shootout at the Emirates, leading to a backlash from some fans.
Sophia Havertz, who is expecting the couple’s first child, shared screenshots of the disturbing messages on Instagram, describing them as shocking. One of the messages prompted her to write: “For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me. I hope you are so ashamed of yourself.”
In response to another highly abusive message, she appealed for decency, urging: “Please, guys, be more respectful. We are better than this.”
Arsenal has reported the threats to the police and is collaborating with a specialist data firm to identify those responsible. The club condemned the abuse and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward online harassment and threats.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the toxic behavior directed at players and their families, particularly on social media platforms.
