A head-on collision between private Toyota Sienta car and a Subaru has claimed six lives including a driver and five passengers.
According to the police on Monday morning, the head-on collision occurred in the Silanage area along the busy Narok-Mulot road in Narok County.
While the driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries during the crash, all five occupants of the Toyota Sienta died.
The police report read in part, “Upon reaching the scene of the accident, the vehicles collided head-on when Subaru Forester tried to overtake another motor vehicle.”
Preliminary reports indicated that the Subaru driver, 38, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, complained of chest pains after the crash and was moved to the hospital for treatment.
Emergency responders moved the bodies of the deceased to Narok District Hospital Mortuary as police launched investigations into the incident.
The Ministry of Transport and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has mounted a crackdown across the country aimed at reducing road carnage.
According to NTSA findings released in February this year, the deadliest accidents in the country happened between 7pm and 9 pm on Kenyan roads with Machakos, Kiambu, Nakuru, Nairobi and Murang’a as the counties with the most fatalities in 2023
