Doctors in Kenya held a peaceful protest on Monday in the country’s capital Nairobi to express their frustration over posting delays.
This protest follows a previous demonstration that escalated into violence, resulting in the injury of Dr. Davji Atellah, the Secretary-General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union.
During the previous protest, Dr. Atellah suffered a head injury when a tear gas canister struck him while security forces tried to disperse the demonstrators.
The ongoing delays in posting medical, clinical, dental, and nursing interns, along with the slow absorption of Universal healthcare workers, have prompted repeated protests by healthcare professionals.
Their primary demand is the swift harmonisation of all contracts under the Ministry of Health and county governments, aligning with the agreements established in the Kericho Declaration.
