Heavy gunfire was heard coming from the main military camp and some residential areas of Burkina Faso’s capital early on Friday morning.
Several armed soldiers were seen along the main avenue leading to the presidency, some administrative buildings and the national television, which has stopped broadcasting.
A spokesman for the military government that seized power in January was unreachable.
Several tweets indicate that the state TV, La Radiodiffusion Télévision du Burkina has been cut off.
Recall that a coup d’état was launched in Burkina Faso on 23 January 2022. Gunfire erupted in front of the presidential residence in the Burkinabé capital Ouagadougou and several military barracks around the city. Soldiers were reported to have seized control of the military base in the capital.
