Mali’s cotton production has dropped by 10 per cent to 656,548 tonnes, according to the head of Malian Company for Textile Development, Baba Berthe.

Berthe cites heavy rains leading to plantations being flooded causing Mali to miss its earlier target of 750,000 tonnes earlier planned for March.

If the weather in Burkina Faso is milder, it could become Africa’s number one cotton producer.
