Heavy rains in Madagascar have flooded parts of the capital, Antananarivo, killing 10 people and rendering over 12,000 homeless, officials said Wednesday.
At least 2,400 homes in the capital are flooded and low-lying areas of the city are in deep water, officials said. Six houses in higher parts of the city also collapsed because of the rains.
Madagascar’s risk and disaster management office says two people were injured in flash floods in and around Antananarivo.
The floods were the result of heavy downpour that started on Monday night and continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Displaced families and others are sheltering in three gymnasiums in the city, schools and local government offices.
