High-Tech Surgical Facility for South Africans Debut in Tshwane

The first five-star green-rated Cintocare Private Surgical Hospital, located in the burgeoning Menlyn Maine precinct, City of Tshwane has been received with delight by many residents.

The medical facility is a first not only in South Africa, but in Africa, and the fifth in the world with this kind of surgical mix focusing exclusively on head, neck, spinal and vascular surgeries.

The specialised hospital covers 11,000m2, seven floors, three levels for parking, a full suite of services for the 100-bed hospital incorporating 15 consulting rooms, five theatres, and one hybrid theatre. It officially opened its in November 2020.

The largest primary-listed real estate investment trust on the JSE – Growthpoint spent R470 million to develop the Cintocare Hospital.

Growthpoint announced in a Sens statement that it had sold the hospital to Growthpoint Healthcare Property Holdings (Growthpoint Healthcare) for just over R515 million.

Linda Sigaba, Growthpoint Healthcare’s fund manager, points out that the Cintocare Hospital is also the first hospital in South Africa, and arguably Africa, to generate its own oxygen on demand using an installed Pressure Swing Absorbtion Plant system.

The hospital also has a fully robotic pharmacy, which processes and then sends medication via chutes to the relevant section of the hospital for use

Hospital spokesperson Ineke Jonker said the hospital was tailor-made to be a high-performance clinical centre of excellence, focusing on the various surgical needs of patients.

Jonker further stated that the design offered a 15% faster recovery rate, a 22% reduction in the need for pain medication and an 11% reduction in secondary infections.

Disciplines offered include neuro and spinal surgeons, maxillofacial and oral surgeons, including, ear, nose and throat surgeons.

Other services at the hospital include plastic, reconstructive, vascular surgeries, as well as specialist physicians, paediatricians and intensive care services. It offers radiology, pathology, physiotherapy, audiology and speech, and swallowing therapy.
