Hohoe Bank of Ghana, Melcom Clear Electricity Deficit

ECG Deficit Cleared by Hohoe Bank of Ghana, Melcom, and Others

The Volta Region’s acting general manager for the Electricity Company of Ghana ECG, Michael Buabin, has stated that most customers had paid off all outstanding debts. Customers such as The Bank of Ghana at Hohoe, the Ho Nursing Training College, KFC, and Melcom in Aflao settled their indebtedness when the ECG disconnection taskforce visited them.

Buabin, explained that, regrettably, some businesses lost access to the national grid before making payments and pleaded with them to develop the habit of paying for what they had consumed.

The ECG which raised more than GHC 27 million from customers in just three weeks, has received payment from a number of institutions in the Volta Region.

In order to support the power sector and Ghana’s economy, the company launched an aggressive one-month revenue mobilisation campaign to recover 5.7 billion in national debt from its debtors, with the Volta and Oti responsible for about GHC 220 million.

In the course of the exercise, the ECG officials visited several state institutions, hotels, and tertiary institutions, among others, which owed the company for the power they used and were consequently disconnected from

The Ho Airport and KFC had paid their debts in full, according to the Acting General Manager, and the ECG now owed them.

D Inviro Labs, a factory in Sogakope, paid GHS 526,047.23 last week. Their current debt is GHS 118,483, which they received last week, and they have promised to settle it soon.

According to Mr. Buabin, Sogakope Beach Resort, Brazil Agro, Sogakope Red Bull Academy, and Regency Salt have paid off all outstanding debts to the ECG.

Some organizations, including the NCA, GCB, Stevens Hotel, and Skyplus Hotel, never owed ECG because they always made their current payments. These organizations are to be commended for this.

“We would like to commend all these customers for supporting this exercise through the patriotic act of paying for electricity consumed, and all other customers and institutions should emulate this patriotic act.”

The Acting General Manager disclosed that some municipal and district assemblies that were visited or disconnected had settled part of their arrears and were on a payment plan.
