The leadership of the House of Representatives has decided to dissolve the current ad-hoc Joint Downstream and Midstream Committee, which was set up to investigate issues in the oil and gas sector such as the importation of adulterated petroleum products and the non-availability of crude oil for domestic refineries.
Reliable sources indicate that the House leadership was uncomfortable with some members of the joint committee, who were alleged to be susceptible to undue external influence.
The House Spokesperson, Rep Akin Rotimi announced that a new ad-hoc committee with the same mandate will be formed, consisting of members selected for their expertise, competence, and integrity.
He said the House remains committed to addressing critical issues in the oil and gas sector and ensuring thorough oversight.
He revealed that further details on the operations of the new committee will be announced in due course.
