Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen and Bayer Leverkusen’s Aleix Garcia have been added to Spain’s Nations League squad following the withdrawal of Barcelona duo Inigo Martinez and Marc Casado.

The Spanish Football Federation announced on Monday that Barcelona informed them both Martinez and Casado sustained right knee injuries during their dramatic comeback win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Huijsen, 19, has been a key figure in Bournemouth’s push for Champions League qualification and their FA Cup quarter-final run this season. His impressive performances earned him a promotion from Spain’s Under-21 squad.

Meanwhile, Garcia, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, has already earned three caps for Spain and will bolster the midfield options.

Spain, the reigning Nations League champions, will travel to Rotterdam for the first leg of their quarter-final clash against the Netherlands on Thursday, with the return fixture set for Valencia three days later.
