It may seem as though Nigerians are in for a hot rap battle between two controversial figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
After rapper Eedris Abdulkareem took aim at Daddy Freeze in an unreleased track titled “Poverty,” the radio personality hit back with a rap video that matched the intensity.
Eedris shared a preview of his latest song, “Poverty,” on Instagram on Thursday, February 23, along with a detailed caption explaining the connection between the track and Nigeria’s current reality.
In the shared snippet, Eedris threw shade at Daddy Freeze, accusing him of contributing to the country’s problem by condemning men of God while allegedly associating closely with fraudsters.
“Nigerians we dey live as slaves in our country because of cocky f*ols wey dey defend politicians.
And some Daddy Freezers wey dey always insult pastors, later in the night go chill with fraudsters,” Eedris rapped.
Reacting to the attack in a rap freestyle, Freeze described the rapper’s present career as an ice box where people go to chill their drinks.
“What’s up OG? This is a new era. These are new times. Those are we crimes. Your career is on life support, too weak for me to retort. No one’s listening bro… Your career is in vain. I feel your pain.
“You were a star once and now it’s all in your brain. Once bold, now your star’s getting old. Smoking hot once now we chill drinks in your box ‘cos you’re that cold…” Freeze rapped.
The “Mr. Lecturer” hitmaker dominated the music industry in the early 2000s during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
One of his most popular and controversial tracks, “Jaga Jaga” was released in 2004. The song was a major hit across Nigeria and beyond. It earned him widespread fame.
However, the song did not go down well with former president Obasanjo who criticised Eedris for referring to Nigeria as “jaga jaga”. OBJ still refers to it at any given opportunity.
Recently, Eedris has been making headlines for his contentious remarks about the entertainment industry, consistently targeting artists like Burna Boy and others in the field.
