Former Deputy governor of Oyo state, Iyiola Oladokun and his family have been rendered homeless following the explosion that rocked Ibadan on Tuesday night.
Oladokun’s building was among the houses affected by the explosion. He said, he and his family members could not stay in the house anymore due to the damage from the blast.
The former deputy governor added that he got support from a friend who housed him and his family after the explosion on Tuesday night.
He explained that the incident had cost him the loss of property and valuables worth millions of Naira.
He said: “I am one of the residents of Dejo Oyelese Close. My house was affected. We were just watching the football match when the explosion occurred. All the doors that were closed were forced open.
“It was very devastating. All the doors, burglaries, windows and even the roof have gone. We give glory to God that me and my wife were not hurt.”
“I am just coming back now because we can’t sleep here again. We couldn’t sleep here yesterday. We had to use our phone to move out yesterday.”
The emergency respondents said “Over 20 houses were affected. Casualty figures cannot be ascertained for now. Search and rescue operation is still ongoing.”
NEMA told residents of the state that security had been beefed up in the region as plans for further assistance to facilitate operations are underway. It added that the situation had been brought under control while plans were being made to ensure smooth operation.
