The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan has called on member states to uphold their responsibilities under the Rome Statute following the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
“We count on the cooperation of all Rome Statute parties to implement these warrants,” Khan said, voicing serious concerns about escalating violence and dwindling humanitarian aid in Gaza and the West Bank, as reported by Al Jazeera.
The International Criminal Court confirmed the warrants on Friday, alleging Netanyahu and Gallant committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in connection with the Gaza conflict since October 2023.
While the warrants are classified as “confidential” to safeguard witnesses and protect the integrity of investigations, the ICC revealed that the behaviour under scrutiny appears to be ongoing. The Court also highlighted the need to inform victims and their families of the developments.
