ICJ Sets Hearings for South Africa's Genocide Case Against Israel Over Gaza War

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has scheduled public hearings for the proceedings initiated by South Africa against Israel over the Gaza war. The hearings will take place on January 11 and 12, as confirmed by the ICJ on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

In this case, South Africa has requested an urgent order from the ICJ, asserting that Israel is violating its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention in its actions against Hamas. Israel has stated its intention to appear before the Court to challenge these accusations.

Typically, the court takes one or two weeks to issue a decision on emergency measures following the hearings. While the ICJ’s rulings are final, the Court lacks the authority to enforce them.
