A bodyguard for Ida Odinga, the wife of former Kenya Prime Minister and presidential candidate Raila Odinga, was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman.
Ida’s chief of security, David Masaga, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the bodyguard, whose name is still unknown, was killed at Riat in the Kisumu West sub-county.
Police opened investigations into the incident, and early findings suggest that the officer got into a fight with an unidentified man. According to reports, two other people were also shot and are now at a local hospital for treatment. Police have not yet provided a status report on the pair.
In anticipation of an autopsy, the bodyguard’s corpse was taken to the mortuary at Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital. Detectives assigned to the case launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the crime scene.
Additionally, reports indicate that the wife of the former Prime Minister is safe. Ida and her team have not yet made a statement on the incident.
