Austin Jay Jay Okocha, a former captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, says that he sees North American and Asian sides as being better prepared for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar than African nations.
Okocha has predicted that African teams will not fare well in Qatar. African nations sending representatives to the World Cup include Senegal, Morocco, Cameroon, Tunisia, and Ghana
“It’s the first time I’m not confident about Africa’s chances in the World Cup,” Okocha was reported as saying to the media
“If you look at Asia and North America, they seem stronger and more advanced than us. We were already 50 paces behind South America and Europe, and now North America and Asia seem to be ahead of us.
“We have hopes in Senegal and Morocco, they seem the strongest. Tunisia, Ghana and Cameroon seem to be a stepping stone for other teams to reach the knockout stages.”
The legendary midfield maestro played 73 times for the Nigeria national team between 1993 and 2006, scoring 14 goals, and was a member of three FIFA World Cup squads.
