IMF Urges Kenya to Monitor High Profile Leaders’ Spending

Kenyan politicians and high-profile leaders will have their financial accounts probed to tame money laundering.

In fresh directives by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the National Treasury will follow the cash dealings of leaders, including President William Ruto.

The Treasury said the move will take effect starting January 2023, to ensure that their income matches their financial activities.

Financial Reporting Centre, which deals with anti-money laundering, is expected to amend the law requiring banks to reveal sources of funds for politicians.
