Several communities have been devastated by the recent floods that has destroyed properties, displaced communities and visited hardship on people in Bayelsa, a coastal state in Southern Nigeria
The Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has bemoaned the level of damage and has appealed on the Federal government of Nigeria for urgent intervention.
Governor Diri, on Thursday, undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the flood situation in communities like Tungbo, Sagbama Town and Adagbabiri, all in Sagbama Local Government Area. He also visited Odi and Kaiama communities in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
The governor was accompanied by the Commissioner for Environment and Chairman of the Task Force on Flood Mitigation and Management, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Solomon Agwana, Eselema Gbaranbiri, his Works and Information counterparts, Moses Teibowei and Ayibaina Duba respectively as well as other top government functionaries.
