The Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, announced key details regarding the upcoming election at a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the INEC office in Yaba, Lagos.
Agbaje stated that only properly tested BVAS machines will be used during the election and reported that 88% of the total 7,637,402 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected, with a remaining balance of 928,951.
The Commissioner also announced that accreditation for voters will take place between 8:30am and 2:30pm on election day and that ad-hoc staff must have set up their stations by 8am.
It was emphasised that only INEC is authorised to announce the results of the election, both during the voting process and the counting of votes.
Earlier, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lagos, over alleged partisanship and compromise.
In a statement by his special assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu said it was curious that Agbaje had insisted on using the Lagos State Park and Garage Management Committee led by transport kingpin, Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.
