Injury Woes for Liverpool as Alisson Faces Extended Layoff

Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be out of action for a few weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during the team’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Brazilian international was forced to leave the pitch in the second half at Selhurst Park after injuring himself while making a clearance. He was replaced by 23-year-old Czech goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed concern over Alisson’s absence, noting that he does not expect to have his first-choice keeper available for the upcoming match against Chelsea, which follows the international break. “When a player walks off like he did, it normally means he’s not in the Brazil squad and I don’t expect him to be in the team for the first match we play after the break,”  Slot said after Diogo Jota’s ninth-minute goal secured Liverpool’s sixth win in seven league matches this season.

Slot confirmed that Alisson’s injury is likely related to his hamstring, stating, “We have to wait and see but it will be a few weeks for him to be back. I think it is, yes (his hamstring). He’s clearly our number one, he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he gets injured, not only for him but us as a team.”

The team also faced another injury blow when midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was substituted by Dominik Szoboszlai at half-time due to a groin issue. While the severity of Mac Allister’s injury remains unclear, Slot commented, “He felt it and said ‘it’s not good to keep on playing because it could be made worse’. It’s difficult for me to say if he can play for Argentina. It was in the groin area.”
