Insecurity: Motorcycle Riders Banned from Operating at Night in Zamfara

The Zamfara state government has banned the use of motorcycles, popularly referred to as Okada, at night due to the high rate of insecurity.

Governor Dauda Lawal gave the directive via a statement from the Senior Special Adviser on Media (Broadcast), Jaafaru Mustapha Kaura, in Gusau, the state capital. The decision came after a security meeting at the Government House in Gusau.

In the statement, the Governor stressed his concern over the heightened acts of banditry in the state, saying that his administration is implementing ways to tackle insecurity.
The Governor, while commending the military and security personnel for their efforts in curtailing banditry and acts of terrorism, urged them to intensify their actions.

Night movement by motorcycle riders was also banned during the past administration. Ex-Governor Bello Mohammed issued the directive and shut down telecommunication networks across the state to curb insecurity, but it did not yield the desired result.
