Andre Onana has been linked with a move away from Ajax Amsterdam, with Inter reporting an interest in signing the goalkeeper.

The Cameroonian international returned to the Ajax matchday squad after missing a lengthy absence for the weekend’s 0-0 draw against Go Ahead Eagles.

A UEFA doping violation resulted in Onana’s suspension for 12 months as of February 2021, after he had been found to possess the banned substance furosemide in his urine during an out of competition check on 30 October last year. In June, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the ban to nine months.

Therefore, the Ajax shot-stopper, who has kept 83 clean sheets in 204 appearances for the Dutch Eredivisie champions, will be able to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil in January.

Tuttosport reports that Inter are considering using Christian Eriksen in part-exchange for the 25-year-old.

Eriksen’s future at Inter is in doubt due to his inability to play in Italy. On June 12, when playing against Finland in Euro 2020, the Danish midfielder sustained a cardiac arrest. He was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).

It is reported that Eriksen is not allowed to play in Italy unless the ICD device is removed, however, these rules are reportedly different in Holland, which may allow Eriksen to return to Ajax.

Onana’s Ajax contract runs until the end of the 2021/22 season.
